Olympia Rain Forest

Olympia has three parts the mountains, the rain forest and the beach.... this is the rain forest part.

There where huge trees and the smallest of flowers..

And moss so deep you could drown in it... It was so lush and beautiful because it gets a lot of rain...

This broken tree was amazing..

Me with dripping moss... there was a storm a few years ago that took out trees so there is a lot of day light in this area... me in the sunshine in the rain forest... who would have thought... where it was supposed to be dry it was wet, where it was supposed to we wet we had sunshine???

The moss was so different from Spanish moss.

This moss is called lettuce.... It falls from the top of the trees...

Obviously this tree stump is really big!!!

When trees fall they become nurseries for future trees. First the small plants start then larger...

Cool soon to be rotting stump...

See how big the trees are this is a six foot man...

The vegetation was so lush and amazing...

The bottom of the rivers were smooth stones... I especially like this photo were the moving surface hides the stones below.

Fungi

See the little hole at the bottom of this tree..

Here is a close up... I love my 20 zoom on my camera.

Beautiful ferns...

and more undergrowth...

The Hoh river comes down from Mt. Olympus to the sea...

Here is a nursery tree... further along... with trees growing from it.

Because of all the rain, the trees have roots on the surface and work around stones in the ground... so when big wind storms happen, they get blown over.

Cool reflections...

The water was so clear and cold... you can see these stones.

Two trees fell parallel to each other... we had to walk under the trees to continue on the path...

Matt and the moss...
